Using AI to support our services
At Medical Law Services, we believe innovation and technology should be central to delivering an effective and efficient service for our clients. That’s why we have invested heavily in building our own AI capability, combining data science, engineering and clinical expertise to create intelligent tools that improve how medical records are reviewed, organised and analysed.
Through this we have developed an AI-enabled platform, Called Mermaidd (Medical Records Management for AI-Driven Decisions) to support our colleagues in the secure, efficient and clinically robust pagination of medical records. This has been designed to support our specialist nurses and legal professionals, removing repetitive manual tasks, enabling them to focus on the highest-value clinical and analytical work, and provides a dedicated user interface for working with medical records.
We use this platform internally to deliver all our pagination services, and it is now a core part of how we provide a thorough and efficient service.
Medical records often arrive incomplete, disorganised and in mixed formats. AI helps us transform large, complex bundles into structured, searchable and reliable evidence, while keeping decision making and analytical thinking with experienced clinical professionals.
Having a bespoke interface and AI support makes it easier for us to work with medical records and enables comprehensive data subject checks but does not change the quality of the services we provide. This ensures confidence for regulators, insurers and legal teams; we can be more efficient, whilst maintaining the independence and professional judgement that medico-legal work demands.
Stronger GDPR and compliance protection
AI-supported scanning of all records highlights potential data breaches and inconsistencies before pagination begins. This drives a much more effective compliance process that is also more efficient: we identify 9x more GDPR breaches from record providers, in less than 50% of the time compared to when only doing this manually. This means greater adherence to UK GDPR, and more secure handling of sensitive information in downstream processes.

Following the internal benefits we have seen from having a dedicated AI platform for working with medical records, we are now pleased to offer this platform as a stand-alone service for our customers.
This platform is called Mermaidd. We think this will have real benefits for anyone working with medical records — for example: when pagination might not be appropriate or proportional, or when legal teams would like an improved ‘self-serve’ interface for interacting with their medical records.
